Mathias Coppens

Mathias Coppens (°1988) began his professional piano and composition studies in the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp under supervision of Levente Kende and Wim Henderickx. He pursued his studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Willem Jeths and Wim Henderickx where he gratuated with the highest distinction. 

 

He is laureate of numerous competitions for piano and composition (Axion Classics, Ottoboni, Stephan De Jonghe, Robus, Tenso) and got numerous prices: Young composer of 2006, 'Jeugd en Muziek'-price, Artos-price, et cet...

 

Mathias played as a soloist and chambermusic player in various hals like 'La Monnaie' (Brussels), Mozarthaus (Vienna), St- Martens in the Fields (London), deSingel (Antwerp) and numerious others. His compositions where performed by 'I Solisti del vento', Asko-Schönberg Ensemble, Bl!ndman Sax, Eric Ericsson choir, Brussels Philharmonic, Hermes Ensemble, Oddyseia ensemble, Atlas Ensemble, Casco Phil et cet... He is currently composer in residence with Hermes ensemble. He often works together with theater (Melkweg Amsterdam, theater de Spiegel, et cet..)

 

He is artistic leader of deCompagnie, co-founder of TetraGonist and he organises the Klavierfestival in Amuz, Antwerp. He teaches piano literature, is assistant analysis of prof Wim Henderickx and coaches projects of the composition class at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. Together with Karel Tuytschaever he has set up the interdisciplinary week at the KCA. Since 2016 he teaches piano-improvisation at the Lemmens institut, Leuven. 

Sven Van De Voorde
 

Sven Van De Voorde (°1988) began his professional clarinet studies in the Royal Conservatory of Ghent with Eddy Vanoosthuyse and is currently pursuing a Master degree in the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Harri Mäki, Olli Leppäniemi and Kari Kriikku. Equally gifted as an accordionist Sven studied classical accordion in the Conservatory of Ghent with Philippe Thuriot and jazz with Tuur Floorizone. 

 

He is laureate of numerous competitions on both clarinet and accordion (Axion Classics, Ottoboni, Vlamo, Citta di Carlino). Recently Sven won the fifth prize in the prestigious Ghent Clarinet Competion.

 

Sven currently works as co-principal clarinet with Lahti Symphony Orchestra. Before that he held an apprenticeship position with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (FRSO) and Tapiola Sinfonietta. He played numerous productions with Brussels Philharmonic, Symphony Orchestra Flanders and Prima La Musica, and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Avanti chamber orchestra in Finland. 

 

Sven is a founding member of DeCompagnie and Tetragonist. Both ensembles released their debut CD in 2014.

 

Sven was elected laureate of Swuk 2014.
